Musee Musical was started in the year 1842 by a Mr. Misquith from the UK and was originally named Misquith & Co He then sold it to someone called Produne, who gave it its current name. It was later sold to Giridhar Das, whose son Haricharan Das is the present director of the store.
Musee Musical also has branches in other Indian cities such as Puducherry (1976), Secunderabad (1999) and Hyderabad (2006) and will be opening branches in Bangalore and Pune soon. Within Chennai they have plans to expand to North Chennai (Royapuram-Perambur area) and South Chennai (Velachery).
The music school run by them is big enough to attract around 400 students who fix up mutually convenient timings with the respective teachers of the various instruments being taught here.
There are 18 rooms in all, each dedicated to a specific instrument. String instruments like the guitar and violin (Rs. 2,500 onwards for a month) are the most sought after along with percussion instruments like drum sets (Rs. 13,000 onwards for a month).
They sell musical instruments too, from a plectrum to a piano (Yamaha, Korg, Kawai, Roland, Chancellor, Mapex etc.) |
